   WHY IS SMOKING BAD FOR ME? 
              
    Tobacco smoke contains over 4000 chemicals, at least 50 of which cause cancer

   Smoking dramatically increases your risk of lung cancer, heart disease and over 50 other diseases .
   This includes at least 8 cancers,  breathing diseases, asthma, stomach ulcers and psoriasis.
   The carbon monoxide in smoke reduces your body's oxygen supply so that your lungs work less efficiently. 

   Nicotine speeds up your body, and constricts your blood vessels.
   Tar contains cancer-causing substances and damages your lungs.  A 40 a day smoker is exposed
   to the radiation equivalent of hundreds of chest xrays.

   10,000 people in the UK die every month because of smoking. 
   That's over 300 a day - equal to a jumbo jet crashing to the ground every 24 hours.

   Studies which examined the saliva in childrens mouths found that in a home where both parents regularly
   smoke,  a child receives the equivalent of 80 cigarettes a year.  They are also twice as likely to develop asthma.
   A baby's risk of cot death is 3 / 4 times higher if it's mother smokes.
   This is 5 times higher if both parents smoke.

   In Britain approximately 12 people die on the roads each day -
   100 die from lung cancer - 100 from chronic bronchitis - 100 from heart attacks  .

   Smoking increases your blood pressure and speeds up your heartbeat  by almost 30%.
   Nicotine is so poisonous it can be used in the garden as an insecticide. It is more poisonous than arsenic
   and strychnine.   A thimble full is enough to kill a horse.

   Smoking 20 cigarettes a day costs around  £1,916 per year. 
   Over an average life time that is in excess of £100,000

   IS SECOND HAND SMOKE REALLY THAT DANGEROUS?

   Yes, it is estimated that several hundred people die each year from lung cancer and heart disease
   caused by second hand smoking.  Breathing in other people's smoke increases the risk of mouth and
   throat cancers and heart disease,  and makes chest problems and allergies such as asthma worse. 

   Children exposed to smoking may suffer serious breathing illnesses,  asthma and middle ear disease. 
   Second hand smoke is also linked to sudden infant death syndrome doubling the risk.

   The Royal College of Physicians belives that up to 17,000 hospital admissions a year of children under 5
   are due to their parents smoking.     Women who smoke when pregnant are likely to reduce the birth weight
   and damage the health of their baby.

   WHY CAN'T I JUST CUT DOWN GRADUALLY?

   May sound like a good idea but it's difficult and doesn't work, as the nicotine will still be in your system. 
   Mentally you will think more about smoking and the time before you can have another cigarette.
   If you stop and become a non-smoker, you will avoid the need to think about cigarettes &
   concentrate on other things.

   HOW CAN HYPNOTHERAPY HELP?
